The Source of Insightful Mapping

How We Started

PIE was originally founded in 2004 as a publisher of offline maps to meet the bespoke needs of specific driving communities, namely motorbike riders and disabled drivers.

Since the publication of the first PIE Guide (a motorbike parking map of central London which sold out the first 10,000 copies within months), we have focused on the delivery of data and mapping services around the disabled community and the freight industry.

Before the advent of Google maps, we created our own Ajax mapping application which displayed animated buses following a bus route. As there were no available technologies to draw yellow lines or red routes onto maps, we had to build our own solutions to achieve this.

Our GIS team’s contribution to the Open Source WMS has helped thousands of other developers to evolve essential map capabilities on maps.
